The brand audit: 12 questions we ask before designing anything

Every project at Orvane starts the same way. Before we open a design tool, we sit down with the founders and ask twelve questions. They feel simple. The answers rarely are.

Why an audit comes first

Design decisions are only as good as the thinking behind them. An audit surfaces the gaps between what a brand says, what it does and what customers actually believe.

We group the questions into three areas: the business, the audience and the market. Each answer shapes the brief, and the brief shapes everything after it.

The questions that matter most

Who is this for, and who is it not for? What do customers say about you when you are not in the room? What would you never compromise on? If you can answer those three clearly, the rest of the work gets much easier.
